Metro Phoenix drivers will get a break from scheduled closures over the Fourth of July weekend.
No closures are scheduled from Friday afternoon through Monday night not only in the Valley but across state highways in order to limit impacts on travel over the extended holiday weekend, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
While no closures are scheduled, drivers are advised to allow for extra time and be prepared for unscheduled highway detours due to crashes, disabled vehicles or other incidents such as wildfires.
Drivers should also be prepared to slow down when approaching existing work zones, ADOT said.
Other recommendations include bringing extra drinking water and supplies in case of an unscheduled closure, buckle up and obey speed limits, get rest before traveling, never drive while impaired or text while driving and check the vehicle before leaving including tire pressure.
ADOT also said drivers should not park in areas with grasses and brush as hot vehicle components could start a fire.
